Reports and snapshots
Polite note to readers of reports and snapshots
Feel free to use the snapshots for dissemination, in your own work, to make a case for using virtual worlds in your institution, or for whatever other ethical purpose.
The people who provided the quotes and input in the reports (without which there would be no snapshots) did so in good faith and spent their (often cramped) time doing so. Many academics have spent considerable time providing content, opinion, factual information and reflections on their experiences. A few small points in fairness, then:
- When using quotes from the snapshots and reports, please attribute the person who originally said it. It’s nice for them if they get the credit and the little sparkle of publicity, as they did the original work.
- Also; please don’t use the snapshots as a directory to bombard all of the academics within. If/when contacting, be up front about the purpose of your work. The AoIR has some further suggestions in the (still remarkably relevant) 2002 guidelines “Ethical decision-making and Internet research“.
Thank you. And with that – here’s what VWW has done to date, and what’s coming soon …
