‘Start the week’ podcasts
Between February and May 2009, Virtual World Watch released a weekly podcast. Each featured an interview with a UK academic developer in virtual worlds, or some other topic of interest to the community.
February 9th 2009. In this first podcast, VWW presents a summary of the latest snapshot survey.
February 16th 2009. In episode 2, we bring you the first half of a telephone interview with Kathryn Trinder and Ferdinand Francino of Glasgow Caledonian University.
February 23rd 2009. In episode 3, we bring you the concluding half of the interview with Kathryn and Ferdinand.
March 2nd 2009. For episode 4 we stay in Scotland and interview Daniel Livingstone from the University of the West of Scotland.
March 9th 2009. In episode 5 Simon Bignell describes his Second Life activities at the University of Derby.
March 16th 2009. It’s 16th March, so in episode 6 Sheila Webber describes some of the information science-oriented work she has been doing in Second Life.
March 23rd 2009. In the edition for 23rd March, we request information from the UK academic community about virtual world developments.
March 30th 2009. This week, Mark Childs tells us about the Theatron project, and some of the issues he’s had with teaching using Second Life.
April 6th 2009. This week, David Burden tells us about some of the developments in UK academia created by his organisation, and about the JISC-funded PIVOTE project in particular.
April 13th 2009. From the North, Kate Boardman describes some of the activities up there in Teesside, and the resources which have been put into their Second Life developments.
April 20th 2009. From Devon, Anna Peachey talks about some of the second life activities she has been involved with at the Open University.
April 27th 2009. From the JISC RSC for the West Midlands, Jane Edwards describes how she got involved in Second Life, and how the centre supports post-16 education virtual world activities in the region.
May 4th 2009. From the West Midlands we go to the East Midlands, as Andy Beggan, manager of the IS Learning Team at the University of Nottingham, describes what they are doing in virtual worlds there.
May 11th 2009. This week, Andy Powell from Eduserv outlines his path into Second Life, and why the Foundation funded various projects in virtual worlds.
May 18th 2009. This week, Annabeth Robinson from Leeds College of Art and Design describes her work with Second Life and other virtual worlds.
May 25th 2009. For the final podcast of May, Dr Anne Cunningham from the University of Sunderland describes how she ‘got’ Second Life, and some of what she does using this particular virtual world.
