RSC Wales in Second Life: an update

Helen Hodges from JISC RSC Wales checks in for snapshot #8. Thanks, Helen.

+ + + + +

There is not a lot that has changed since I last sent through a ‘snapshot’ of our Second Life activity! We still have our Second Life Office on the University of Wales, Newport School of Health & Social Sciences island, which is mainly being used by the (distributed) RSC Wales team as another ‘place’ to meet together virtually, as opposed to Skype or video conferencing.

We have had limited interest from our learning providers in taking up our offer to help them take their first steps in Second Life, although I am going to a college later in March (at their request) to give them (amongst other things) a demo of the potential of Second Life … they are particularly interested in using it ‘to encourage people to come for things like learning support’.

I am a little disappointed there is not more to report … but we have been focusing on other things and maybe the ‘slowly, slowly’ approach is the way to go!
